CanLII: Canadian Court Data for Agents
Coverage planned. Not yet live.
CanLII — the Canadian Legal Information Institute — is the open-access system maintained by the Federation of Law Societies of Canada. It provides free, well-structured access to decisions and filings from federal courts, provincial superior courts, tribunals, and administrative bodies across all ten provinces and three territories.
For agent-native docket monitoring, CanLII is the closest international analog to PACER. The data is openly licensed, available in both English and French, and structured consistently across jurisdictions — which makes integration significantly cleaner than in the patchwork of state-level US court systems. Case identifiers follow predictable patterns, document formats are standardized, and the system is designed for programmatic access rather than retrofitted for it.
CanLII is coming to DocketLayer as part of our international expansion. The reasons are straightforward: low integration friction, a coherent legal framework across the country, and a growing market of Canadian legal technology firms building agent-driven workflows. Coverage will begin with federal courts and major provincial superior courts, with a pay-per-query pricing model consistent with our US PACER coverage.
